Working with Tricia was a much needed a kick in the butt and a healing experience. Tricia helped me interrogate how my identity as a woman of color, specifically an Asian woman, has led me to be the utility player, the "get it done" gal, the dumping ground--and what am I going to do about it? How do I empower myself rather than wait for others to recognize and reward me? How does the very act of asking for what I need and want become an act of empowerment? How do I take a moment, pause, and actually acknowledge what I need and want when I've always been solely mission-driven and loyal to the "cause" and the organization while ignoring my own development and satisfaction? These questions may seem obvious to others, but even after reading texts like How Women Rise, I didn't know how to fully internalize the mindset and take concrete steps. I was careening toward burnout.
